Patients come to my office for whiplash treatment as frequently as they do for other complaints. One of the most common complaints that I see in my San Diego Chiropractic Clinic is chronic neck pain. More often than not, the patients who complain of chronic neck pain were involved in a whiplash car accident in the past and either didn’t receive the appropriate treatment or didn’t received any treatment at all.
Southern Californians are notorious for driving too aggressively during the rainy season therefore whiplash accidents are all too common in San Diego. Another factor that leads to whiplash accidents is the large number of distracted drivers (cell phones anyone?). Because of these two situations we have had the opportunity to perfect our approach to whiplash treatment in our clinic.
Whiplash Treatment for Chronic Neck Pain
As I referenced in the first paragraph of this post, in many cases of chronic neck pain that follows a whiplash injury the patient either didn’t receive care for their injuries, they may have received the wrong kind of care for their injuries (pain killers and muscle relaxers which only mask the pain) or they ended their treatment too soon.
In each of these instances the sprain strain injuries associated with whiplash heal with an too much scar tissue that causes a number of symptoms including but not limited to lost range of motion, pain with weather changes (especially cold and wet weather) and joint stiffness in the morning.
Whiplash Treatment for chronic neck pain focuses on restoring normal, pain free range of motion of the affected joints. Joints are like any thing else mechanical – if they are moving as intended through a full, normal range of motion that is not restricted or altered by scar tissue formation they are less likely to be a source of pain and stiffness.
During your whiplash treatment at our clinic, the problem areas will be examined and the sources of your pain will be identified and then treated with a specific regimen of chiropractic adjustments, electrical muscle stimulation (sounds bad but actually feels wonderful!), ultrasound therapy, specific stretches and exercises that will help build stability, endurance and balance to the muscles of the neck and upper back.
